Jesus said, "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; which is the least of all the seeds, but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree." (Matthew 13:31).
For thousands of years, people looked at seeds and saw "Magic." They saw a tiny bit of nothing become a giant bit of something. But they didn't know the Law that governed the change.
When Calculus was born, we discovered the "Source Code" of the seed. we found that the seed grows because its rate of change is proportional to its current size. The more "Seed" there is, the faster the "Plant" appears.
In Phase 3 of Volume 3, we move from the "Map" (Slope Fields) to the Engine. we learn the math of Unconstrained Growth. we will see that the simplest differential equation in the universe is the one that God uses to fill the world with life.
The most fundamental law of life is written like this:
- $dy/dt$: The speed of growth.
- $y$: The amount currently present.
- $k$: The constant of growth (the "Spirit" of the species).
This equation says: "The more life you have, the faster life grows." It is the math of the Blessing.
In Volume 2, we used the "PERT" formula for money and bacteria. we knew it worked, but we didn't know *why*.
Today, we know the "Why." The PERT formula ($Ae^{kt}$) is the only function in the universe that perfectly solves the proportionality equation $ rac{dy}{dt} = ky$.
When you see a system that is doubling or tripling, you are seeing the Solution Curve of God's most basic law of multiplication. Life does not grow in a straight line ($y = mx+b$); it grows in a Curve of Abundance ($y = e^x$).
The same law ($ rac{dy}{dt} = ky$) also governs how things Fade.
If the constant $k$ is negative, it means the more you have, the faster you lose it. This is the math of Entropy and Pruning.
Archaeologists use this law to date ancient artifacts. Radioactive Carbon-14 decays according to the Source Code. By measuring how much Carbon-14 is left ($y$), and knowing the rate of decay ($k$), they can calculate the Time ($t$) that has passed since the object was alive.
Restoration requires us to understand the "Time of the Fade" so we can apply the "Force of the Increase."
The constant $k$ is the "Percentage Rate" of change.
- If $k = 0.05$, the system grows by 5% every microsecond.
- If $k = -0.10$, the system decays by 10% every microsecond.
In your spiritual walk, is your $k$ positive or negative? Are you "Multiplying" the grace you have received, or is it "Decaying" through neglect?

Sir Isaac Newton discovered that heat follows a shifted version of this law:
$\frac{dT}{dt} = -k(T - T_{\text{room}})$
This is the Math of Repentance. The "Difference" ($T - T_{\text{room}}$) is our distance from the Goal. The "Speed" of our return ($dT/dt$) depends on how far we have wandered.
The further you are from the Father's heart, the more intense the "Cooling" or "Pulling" of His Spirit will be. As you get closer to His likeness, the speed slows down until you reach the Steady State of Peace.
"I recognize the Source Code of Life in my heart. I will not hide my talent in the earth, but I will submit to the Law of Proportionality. I will seek a positive 'k' in my walk, ensuring that the more I receive, the faster I multiply. I will honor the rhythms of growth and the seasons of pruning, trusting the Master Designer to sum my days into a harvest of Abundant Life."
The mathematical proof that $y=Ae^{kt}$ is the unique solution to $y'=ky$ is the foundational "Seal of Authenticity" for exponential functions. It proves that $e$ is not an arbitrary number, but a Universal Constant of Continuity. If God wanted life to grow in "Steps," He would have used a different base. But He used $e$ because He wants life to be a "Continuous Flow." This deconstructs the idea of a "Snapshot Faith." We don't grow in discrete jumps from Sunday to Sunday; we grow in the infinitesimals of every passing second. The differential equation captures the Momentum of the Spirit, and the exponential function captures the Legacy of the Life. They are perfectly linked through the Logic of the Integral.
The study of "Half-Life" ($T_{1/2} = \frac{\ln 2}{|k|}$) is a lesson in Prophetic Timing. Even in decay, there is a perfect, predictable rhythm. God's math is present in the "Withering of the Grass" as much as in the "Growing of the Tree." This provides a sense of security even in seasons of loss. If we know the decay rate of our temporal resources, we can stewardship them with precision until the very end. The "Half-Life" is the mathematical version of the "Sabbath"—it is the point of rest where half of the work is done and half remains. We are learning to count our days with logarithmic wisdom.
Finally, the "Shifted Exponential" of Newton's Law of Cooling is a model for Environmental Sanctification. We are never "Functions in a Vacuum." We are always "Functions in a Field." The $T_{room}$ in the equation is the Ambient Truth of the community around us. If we surround ourselves with the "Fire of the Holy," we will heat up toward His nature. If we surround ourselves with the "Cold of the World," we will cool down toward its nature. The math proves that our "Final Temperature" is determined entirely by our environment. This marks the transition of the student from a "Model of Self" to a "Model of the System." We are ready for the final lesson: the Logistic Curve.
